If we are home, we are usually available to assist you Monday-Sunday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM EST. With two young girls and two dogs, we’re usually wake early and go to sleep pretty early!
Most of the items we build are purely custom in nature and are displayed only as a reference as to the type of work that has been created for customers in the past. We will work with you individually to make your purchasing as easy as possible.
Ordering and Payment: We build all of our kayaks and canoes to meet our customer needs and require a non-refundable 25% deposit to initiate your order. 50% is due when the deck is joined to the hull. The balance is due prior to shipment. When you place your order we will provide a written quotation showing a description of the piece, the woods, and pricing, as well as an estimated delivery date. Please ensure that we have all of the information correct. Most orders take 8-16 weeks to complete. Being a part-time operation we work during the Spring and Autumn off-seasons between summer hiking/paddling and winter skijoring. Projects can be built during peak seasons but will take much longer.
Deadlines: We don’t ordinarily work under a deadline. If you need the piece by a certain date, we will need to add an additional charge. This will be determined by the amount of time involved.
Custom Design Work: For custom design work we work directly with you. Design fees are included in the final price quote. In the first stage, I will provide you with a couple of sketches to get a feel for the piece and to get some feedback from you. Reference material is helpful but not totally necessary.
Kayaks or Canoes: Please contact us for the amount of your order and when payment is due. Mail it with a Check or Money Order in US Funds made out to Dan Caouette. We do take credit cards (through PayPal) but doing so will not speed up the project.
Parts: The best way to order custom parts for your own kayak or canoe project is to use the handy shopping cart and check-out using PayPal. You can also contact us with the items you want and send a check or money order.
To place an order by phone, call 603.449.2654 Monday-Sunday from 7:00 to 7:00 PM EST. You may call at other hours and leave a message on our answering machine. Be sure to leave your contact information.
Prices are subject to change without notice. Any changes in your order will be confirmed by phone or emailed before your order is processed.
Our goal is to have your kayak or canoe arrive in showroom condition. The method of shipment will vary by size and complexity of piece and geographical location. Any price quote given includes shipping within the continental United States.
All kayaks and canoes within New England and Western NY will be hand delivered by Dan & Christine. It’s nice being able to meet our customers in person. Shipping is charged at $1.00 per mile (one way) and factors in our labor and vehicle use.
Shopping to other parts of the continental USA we’ll contract the shipping to a company that specializes in canoes, kayaks and rowing shells. Your canoe or kayak will be loaded onto a custom-built trailer and delivered to you… at a very reasonable fee.
Shipping outside the USA is very possible. It just may be cost prohibitive. Your kayak or canoe will be crated and shipped by a freight consolidator using LCL (Less-than Container Load). You are responsible for paying any duties or taxes (including VAT).
Kayak and canoe parts are shipped either via UPS or similar carrier. Handling and shipping costs are included in the price quote.
As an option you can always pick up your kayak or canoe at our shop for free!
Shipping Damage: Our shippers have been thoroughly screened and damage is very rare. However, accidents sometimes happen, so please check all pieces as they are unpacked. If any damage is observed please advise the delivery personnel, and note the damage on the drivers paperwork (Bill of lading.) Also please immediately contact us at 603-449-2654 or via email at email@example.com.
Small items: Please contact our shipping manager immediately and do not throw away any damaged goods or packaging materials. We will need these items to file a damage claim with UPS or other carrier.
